In 2022, Formfeld realized a free-standing spatial installation for Adidas, featuring the parametrically designed Formfeld 5 structure. Originally developed by Simon Vorhammer in 2016, this structure was subsequently refined and applied in projects for Pollmeier (Woodworking Fair 2018) and FDC Interiors (Dubai Hotel Show 2019).
For the Adidas installation, precision-milled beech laminated timber was used, processed with CNC technology. The wall measures 5.4 × 3.3 meters and is partially free-standing.
A central design element is the smooth transition from untreated wood surfaces to organically shaped, pocket-like 3D geometries. These evolve into a wave-like structure that gradually flattens towards the edges. At the center of the wall, a backlit perforation in the shape of the Adidas logo becomes visible - legible only from a direct frontal view and visually dissolving when seen from an angle.
The aesthetic of the wall can be interpreted as a subtle reference to the façade of the Arena reception building by Behnisch Architekten. The installation is now a permanent feature of the Adidas Brand Center on the Herzogenaurach campus, exemplifying the fusion of traditional, sustainable materials with contemporary digital fabrication technologies.
